What our youth have to say about the Boys & Girls Club
On March 7th, 2017 the Montague Youth Drop-In is launching GAP Career Launch, a program for youth in grades 7-12 to help them with career exploration, resume building, goal building and much more. For more information on this program click here.
This fall the Boys & Girls Club of Montague offered a free program for youth in the community to learn about personal safety and conflict resolution skills. From prevention to escalation and resolution, the instructor of this program, Robert Norton emphasizes a practical approach to personal safety for youth. This specialized program educates people on personal safety in two sessions that are interactive, informative and fun. Norton Arts covered topics such as; friend or foe? safety first, safe words, personal space, stranger tactics, listening to parents, importance of talking, distractions, using your voice, simple self-defense, where to go and who to tell.
The Montague Youth Group also volunteered their time this fall to help with the ‘Scrub the Tub’ efforts at our neighbor the TCAP Family Aquatics and Fitness Centre.
"Hey, I'm Dylan. I'm in Grade 7. It's my first night here. Tonight we ate pizza and treats and watched a movie to celebrate the end of the school year."
"Hi, I'm Jack and I'm 15 years old. I liked the burgers and salad tonight. I thought the obstacle course was fun, especially because I came in first place. We had fun with the new staff Michelle. I'm looking forward to the End of the Year barbecue next week. I'm hoping there will be barbecue sauce!!"
Jack, Age 15
"Hi I'm Jack! Tonight we ate quesadillas and they were really good, and we played out back. My friend, Noah, joined tonight and it was a lot of fun having him here. To finish off the night, we enjoyed a game of golf on the Wii".
"Hello. My name is Isaac, I am 12 years old, turning 13 in two months, July 1st. Today, we did roadside cleanup. And then it started to rain, we pushed through it! I felt great about picking up garbage. We ate icecream after."
- Isaac, Age 12
"My name is Jaden MacDonald, I am 13 years old. My review of tonight is that it was really amazing. We were mostly outside because we really wanted to be. I planned to have sushi, but didn't, since there was vinegar in the rice. I stayed until 9 because I haven't had the chance in a long time, because it is not a school night. I really love the boys and girls club. I haven't been here since March because I had a broken arm. I had to get caught up on what was going on. Luckily I am all caught up now! It was easier than catching up on my school work! Since I didn't like the sushi, Jenna made me spaghetti instead! In conclusion, this was probably one of my best nights at the boys and girls club."
-Jaden, Age 13
"Hi my name is Ayden, I am 12 years old. Tonight we played bingo and we all won three prizes! We all had fun and we all enjoyed our night. We had rice and vegetables for supper. We all enjoyed it. I had fun and I enjoy coming to the boys and girls club. We all play fair and are thoughtful to eachother. We can all enjoy being safe, and being in an environment that we feel safe when we are at the boys and girls club. Thank you for having us tonight on April 6th 2017. Thanks for everything tonight!"
-Ayden, Age 12
"Hi, how are ya? My name Isaac and I'm 12 years old. Tonight we ate falafels. It was my first time eating them. They were "lit" (amazing). We tried to make projectors for our phones but mine didn't work out. I had fun anyway. We played the Wii too."
- Isaac, Age 12
Hello folks, Al here live at the Boys and Girls Club. Tonight on the menu was Butter Chicken with rice and naan. And we made really artsy pillows. I come here to socialize with friends I have met here and to learn new things. I'm looking forward to Career blast-off (Career Launch) on Tuesday. That's all for tonight folks!
"Hi, my name is Jack and I'm 14 years old. I am dedicated to coming to the Boys and Girls Club. I rolled my ancle today and came anyway with crutches. I didn't know what we were going to do tonight. There was ten of us tonight. We had fun making slime. The supper was delicious breakfast waffles. To finish off the night we played with our slime and played the Wii.
P.S. My slime was the best!"
-Jack, Age 14
"Hi, my name is Eric. I'm 12 years old and I like to come to Boys and Girls Club to meet up with my friends and socialize. I also like the activities and like to try new foods. We also learn to cook different things. Tonight we had quinoa salad, made friendship bracelets, and played the Wii."
-Eric, Age 12
"Hi my name is Skylar, I’m 13. I come to boys and girls club frequently and each time it was so much fun today. We ate baked potatoes and played board games. I especially love when we get to stay until nine. Playing the Wii can get pretty competitive but it’s also really fun, and the food is amazing. The best part is laughing with your friends. I’m glad I had the opportunity to come to the boys and girls club every Tuesday and Thursday. My opinion on what we did today would be it was really fun and I’d rather be here then at home."
- Skylar, Age 13
DIY Bath Bombs - February 7, 2017
"Tonight all of us at the teen drop-in. Tonight we had taco things and we made bath-bombs this was probably the best teen drop-in for me yet!! One highlight on the night was the fact if we had a rough day, both of the chaperones will listen if you need to talk at all. The second highlight of the night was the fun of making the bath-bombs. To be honest making the bath-bombs was the bomb. Yeah sorry bad pun but that's what I do, so all in all this night was EPIC!!!! Very happy that I came tonight."
-Erika Autumn, Age 13
